Watch out in Perform
- Pay-to-play bills and 'showcases' that make you sell tickets mostly sell hope — ask who actually attends.
- Legitimate bookers and agents never charge an upfront 'booking fee' — they earn a cut of real fees.
- Festival applications should cost little (SXSW-class) or nothing; application-fee mills exist.
- Booking agencies don't take demos — we checked ten, from the majors (WME, CAA, UTA, Wasserman) to respected mid-tiers (High Road, Ground Control, ROAM, Primary Talent, Landstreicher, Melt): zero open doors. Agents come to rooms with people in them; anyone selling 'agent submissions' is selling a door that doesn't exist.
