Soundtrap
Cloud collaboration DAW in the browser: real-time co-writing, built-in loops and a strong education footprint. Cloud-based browser DAW for recording, editing, and producing music or podcasts with real-time collaboration, built-in instruments, loops, and classroom tools. Founded in Stockholm, sold back to its founders by Spotify in 2023.
- Best for
- Real-time browser co-writing sessions with remote partners. Beginners, educators, and remote co-writers who need an accessible browser DAW that works across Chromebooks and other devices.
- Skip if
- Latency-critical production or pro mixing is the goal. You need low-latency recording, advanced professional mixing or plugin workflows, reliable offline production, or a polished mobile-first DAW.
- First move
- Start a shared project with one remote collaborator. Create a short shared test project, calibrate recording latency, and confirm autosave and export on every collaborator’s device before starting the real song.
- Watch out
- It depends on a stable internet connection and is less capable than a full desktop DAW. Current reviews repeatedly report lag, mobile glitches, autosave or project-loss problems, and free-trial cancellation or billing disputes. Keep local exports and backups, and cancel trials well before renewal.
